November Five Juliet Lima Delta

Follow me down the road of my version of amateur radio, home brew electronics, kit building and a little severe weather spotting.

0 New Hat

Well I got a new hat for Christmas. The fine folks over at Astrids Embroidery did a great job with a fast turn around. Good quality and hat and tight stitching.

0 First Echolink QSO

Well I finally got to use Echolink the other day. I was going to the Skywarn day at the National Weather Service and the talk in was on 70cm. The only 70cm rig I have is an HT and I could hear the repeater but I could not make it. I had heard another QSO on Echolink so I pulled out the Iphone and gave it a shot. Fired up the App and connected to the machine. I heard my callsign come back on the HT and hit the mic button on the phone. It worked really well and before anyone says it, I consider this a real QSO via RF. My phone transmits RF and my contact WD5M on the other side was using a radio.

I guess the moral of this story is I need a 70cm mobile rig.

0 Holding SMT Parts for Soldering

I found a good video showing how to solder SMT parts. I'm a thru hole guy but I'm thinking about moving over to SMT for some projects just because it might just be a little quicker and I might be able to get a smaller footprint.

0 New Rig Control Netbook

Well after much research I settled on the Coby 10.1" Net book. Really they are all pretty much the same IMO but this one ran XP so it was a easy choice for me. I plan on running HRD, N1MM logger and Orbitron Satellite tracker. Should have it about a week or so.
